Hector Moreno began his musical studies at the age of four in Austin, TX, starting with piano and eventually switching to cello. In 2004, he obtained his Bachelor’s degree in cello performance and composition from Stanford University.  In 2006 he completed his Master’s degree in cello performance at the University of Toronto.  While in Canada, he taught at the Classical Music Conservatory located in Roncesvalles, Toronto and served as a guest lecturer on the history and performance-practice of cello as part of the Learning Unlimited organization of Etobicoke, Ontario.  Since moving back to Austin, Mr. Moreno has given concerts with numerous Texas orchestras and ensembles, including the Abilene Philharmonic, the Symphony of Southeast Texas, Victoria Symphony, Temple Symphony, and the Round Rock Symphony.  An avid chamber music lover, Mr. Moreno has participated in a variety of festivals including the Banff Summer Chamber Music Festival, the St. Lawrence String Quartet Workshop, and has also coached for the Austin Chamber Music Center and the CHAMPS (Chamber Music in Public Schools) program.  He has recorded for both classical and non-classical labels, film soundtracks, radio, and collaborated with local Austin composers such as Graham Reynolds, Peter Stopschinksi, P. Kellach Waddle, and Allen Robertson in the creation of new works.  His most rewarding experiences have come from the performance of live musical theatre with companies such as ZACH Theatre, Gilbert and Sullivan Austin, Austin Shakespeare, and Ground Floor Theatre.  Mr. Moreno currently works at Blackerby Violin Shop.  His cello is a black Luis & Clark carbon-fiber cello created by Luis Legulla.
