A Family Affair

"Yesterday, we celebrated the commitments of five student-athletes extending their athletic and academic careers. We celebrated five families that contributed greatly to their success. We celebrated a community of coaches, teachers and friends who all rallied together to support these student-athletes in their athletic and academic achievements."
National Signing Day, the first Wednesday of February each year. A day that high school student-athletes around the nation officially declare their intent to commit to, and play for, the college that has extended them that offer.
Regents has been able to celebrate student-athletes moving on to play intercollegiate sports over the years. Virtually every sport Regents offers has had representation at the collegiate level. That is a significant accomplishment that we just don't talk about much, but is certainly worth noting.
Yesterday, we celebrated the commitments of five student-athletes extending their athletic and academic careers. But we celebrated more than that! We celebrated five families that contributed greatly to their success. But we celebrated more than that! We celebrated a community of coaches, teachers and friends who all rallied together to support these student-athletes in their athletic and academic achievements. Community... we talk about it all of time. And yesterday was a beautiful celebration of Regents community.
What I am most pleased with in regard to these five student-athletes was their focus on more important things besides (or at minimum, in addition to) sport. These guys listened well and responded accordingly. Mrs. Knepp, Ms. Harris (our college advisors) and I talk to families all of the time about going to a great school with your future in mind first, and then if you can play ball, then play. So, we aren't just celebrating their athletic achievements... these kids have signed up for more challenge beyond Regents. These are tough academic schools these kids are going to. And I fully believe that these kids can lead their new campuses well, with Jesus at the center.

As a community, we celebrate alongside these families and these fine young men:

- TJ Piercy - MIT - Swimming
- Noah Bryce - MIT - Football
- Conner Rood - Hamilton College - Basketball
- Will Tyler Brydon - Washington & Lee University - Football
- Zach Smith - Washington & Lee University - Football
