Fine Arts

A Word from the Director of Fine Arts

Welcome to Regents Fine Arts!

It is my privilege, within this unique environment, to serve students, faculty, families, the wider community and my God in this lofty calling at this prestigious school.

The mission of the Regents Fine Arts program is to glorify God by using and developing the artistic gifts given by Him and to establish an enduring appreciation and longing to esteem and share that which is beautiful in the eyes of God.

Our highly qualified and gifted faculty accepts this lofty mission. They are not perfect, but they are committed to the vision of establishing programs where students can find expressive outlets to develop their full potential in the arts that will last a lifetime. Some will develop and excel to the highest level, be it national recognition or "All-State" honors. Others will excel elsewhere in the school and use the fine arts to more than adequately compliment their K-12 education. Some (an annual phenomenon) manage to do both and for that we are very thankful!

Student participation into the higher grades is impressive. Just under half of our Rhetoric/High School students take at least one Fine Arts class through all four years of high school. The student buy-in is a testament to teacher commitment, challenge, rigor and opportunity.

If and when you are a parent please look to be involved in the Fine Arts Parent Council (FAPC). This organization leads the charge in supporting programs, events, teachers and faculty in realizing the mission. By providing this support the teachers and students can produce the best results, and work on their complimentary relationship, for His glory.

In a "selfie" age, we turn to the beauty prescribed by Our Creator, and ask God to bless the work that will turn the hearts of young men and women to His purposes, in recognition of His gifting in their lives. If we miss this opportunity, we miss our purpose altogether.

By His mercy and for His glory,
Andrew Smalley
Director of Fine Arts
