X-Term and Advisory
Upon entering the School of Rhetoric, each student joins an advisory, a close-knit group that he or she will belong to all four years of their high school experience.
Advisory
Advisories are small, single gender, mixed grade groups led by an advisor. Advisories meet with their advisor for ten minutes every morning, and an additional one hour on Mondays. Advisory plays a large part in our goal to educate the whole person. Our advisors mentor each student toward a mature and unified spiritual, intellectual, and social/emotional life in Christ, so that they may live purposefully and intelligently in the service of God and man.

Advisors plan community building activities with their advisories including, but not limited to, service projects, discussing current events, eating lunch together, peaceful meditation in the outdoors, playing card games or kickball. Advisors also provide one-on-one academic mentoring to their advisees, informing students of the many resources available to them as well as training them in wise studying habits. Reading scripture, devotionals and praying are also all integral practices in each advisory.
Xterm
One beloved Advisory tradition is our Xterm. During Xterm, which is in session once a year, students enroll in courses offered by Regents faculty, staff and select seniors, based on their interests. Some past Xterms include: Basic Calligraphy, Financial Literacy, Basics of Car Maintenance, Axis and Allies, College Cooking, Taking Better Photos with your Phone, and Introduction to Welding.
School of Rhetoric students are able to build relationships with their teachers during these informal activities. We believe that to truly mentor and teach a student, the student must feel safe, valued and known. Advisory plays a large part in building that trust. Here are a few thoughts from our students on their favorite aspects of Advisory.
