Dance I is an entry-level dance course that introduces and develops the fundamentals of dance from the ground up, all while improving fitness, strength, and flexibility. The first semester is constructed to instill proper dance technique and terminology, focusing mainly on ballet and jazz. Every class will consist of proper warm up and stretching, barre exercises, and/or across-the-floor progressions. Over the course of the second semester, students will explore additional genres and more advanced steps. They will also learn and rehearse choreography that supports varying dance styles and apply learned performance practices at both the Winter and Spring Demonstrations open to family.

School of Logic Dance II (7th-8th)

Prerequisite: Successful completion of Dance I AND admission by teacher recommendation via in-class evaluations (Outside of class audition required for students who have not completed at least one year of dance at Regents)

Dance II is a continuation of Dance I; designed for dancers with at least one year of prior dance experience. Students will build on their previous knowledge of skills and techniques previously explored all while improving fitness, strength, flexibility, and performance. Every class will again consist of proper warm up and stretching, barre exercises and/or across-the-floor progressions, advancing in difficulty throughout the year. Students will continue to enrich dance vocabulary by exploring more advanced techniques and additional genres such as drill/precision dance. Each semester, students will learn and rehearse choreography that supports varying dance styles and apply learned performance practices in front of a live audience at both the Winter Demonstrations and Spring Show open to family. 

School of Rhetoric Dance (9th-12th)

Dance Basics is designed for students who have little to no prior dance experience. Students are introduced to ballet and jazz technique, vocabulary, and choreography as well as proper warm-up, stretching exercises, and performance technique. Further emphasis is placed on understanding the basic elements of choreography toward developing student skill in creating original dance pieces. Each dancer is expected to arrive in class dressed appropriately and prepare according to the required supply list, and to participate in the SOR Dance Spring Production which requires mandatory rehearsals outside of class time.

School of Rhetoric Advanced Dance (9th-12th)

Students will increase their skill level and strength through more challenging technique, combinations, and choreography, explore different dance styles and begin to independently choreograph basic combinations and large group pieces all while improving upon their performance technique.  Students will be responsible for providing basic dancewear according to the published supply list.  One mandatory dress rehearsal will take place outside of regular class times in preparation for the spring production.

School of Rhetoric Honors Dance (9th-12th)

Honors Dance is Regents’ most advanced dance class requiring a proven skill level and commitment to the art of dance. Students will become stronger, more flexible, and gain greater poise through more challenging technique, combinations, and choreography.  They will hone their performance technique, independently choreograph, and demonstrate combinations and solo/small group pieces. Students will be expected to follow a conditioning program and practice certain skills at home. Students will be responsible for providing basic dancewear according to the published supply list. One mandatory dress rehearsal will take place outside of regular class times in preparation for the spring production.

Knightline (9th-12th)
