what is grandparents day?
- Started by our founding families, Grandparents Day is a favorite Regents tradition where Grammar School students invite their grandparents (or other honored guests) to our school for a special day of performances and other activities. The teachers and students prepare a variety of presentations that give our invited guests a peek inside a Regents education. Families can also enjoy refreshments and snacks throughout the day, as well as tours around campus, including the Regents Science & Nature Center, Grammar classrooms, art room, and library.
is grandparents day a normal school day?
- No, it is not a normal school day; however, teachers do take attendance. It is a half day event, running from about 8 a.m.-12:30 p.m., where each grammar class participates in at least two performances throughout the morning. Your child’s teacher will advise you about attire and what time they need to be in their classroom before the performances. Don’t worry - a detailed schedule will be provided!
is there food at this event?
- There will be light breakfast foods and heavy snacks served throughout the day. Coffee and water will also be provided at various drink stations across the school buildings
what should we wear?
-
Guests are encouraged to wear comfortable walking shoes to make the traverse across campus easier. Performances will be located all across campus, not just the Grammar building. (Most grammar students will wear their chapel uniforms, but teachers will be in touch regarding specifics as the day approaches.)
do we need to buy tickets or rsvp?
What if i have other questions?
- Grandparents Day is run by parent volunteers through the Regents Parents Council. We encourage grandparents and special friends to ask any questions to their family. This year’s Grandparents Day co-chairs are Jenn Ripley and Sara Soenen, who are more than happy to answer any questions parents may have: gpday@regentsaustin.org. Your homeroom mom or new family host are also available for support.
