Leah Whatley

Visual Art — Rhetoric
Lea Whatley is the Regents School of Austin Rhetoric visual art teacher. She is rejoining the Regent’s faculty after a three-year hiatus. She served in this capacity previously from 2010-2017. Lea has a bachelor’s degree from Howard Payne University. As an artist and art teacher in the Austin area for over 20 years, she has committed herself to growth in both her own art and in her ability to teach her students to see, to understand and to create that which is true, good and beautiful. She uses the art room and her own work to image her Creator.

Lea grew up in Austin and in 1984 she married Lahn and together they have 3 children who all graduated from Regents and who now all live in the Austin area.

She is inspired by Johnny Cash’s music and Winslow Homer’s art.  They are both based in truth and tell good stories of American life.  She hopes, one day, to paint like Johnny Cash sings.
