She worked as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in public, private, and school settings, specializing in play therapy and work with trauma survivors, before taking a hiatus to be a full-time parent when her two children were young. This will be her 10th year teaching at Regents, and 5th year full-time on the kindergarten team. Melissa and her husband Brent have been married 21 years, and their children Ethan (11th grade) and Ella (10th grade) have been at Regents since kindergarten. Their family enjoys exploring National Parks, cooking, kayaking, and traveling. Born and raised in the rugged climes of distant Canada, Tanya Melby attended the University of Victoria where she received her Bachelor of Science in Biology before completing a post-degree program in Education. She taught High School Biology in British Columbia for fifteen years before following her heart to California to marry Kinn, an expatriate Texan. For the next thirteen years, Tanya taught Biology in Pasadena at Mayfield Senior School, a private, all-girls high schools. But eventually the siren call of the Lone Star State proved too great, so Tanya and her husband packed up their bags and moved to Austin to be closer to family.

Tanya enjoys traveling and recently experienced a life-long dream of going to Africa on safari. She is looking forward to getting to know Austin and the Regents community. It is such a privilege to incorporate her faith with the joy she has for teaching biology. Tanya and Kinn do not have any children, but their dog Tucker keeps them on their toes.

    What are your outside projects/accomplishments?
I love working with wood and recently created and installed crown molding in our house along hardwood casing for the entries of the living and dining rooms. I am also working on a trundle bed for my daughter using old reclaimed doors.

    What quotable quote inspires you?
For the last couple of years, since visiting Montecello, I have been inspired by Thomas Jefferson along with the men who influenced him, Montesquieu and John Locke. Jefferson said "When people fear the government there is Tyranny, When the government fear the people there is liberty." I would be remiss if I did not include one of my favorite John Wayne lines from the film "Red River" "Don't sit down, we got quitters to bury."

What are your some of your favorites?
Sport:Hockey (GO HAWKS!)... Books: Pilgrim's Progress, Mere Christianity, How Should We Then Live, 1776, Pride and Prejudice, and this summers reading "The Boys in the Boat"...Author: C.S. Lewis......Bible Verse: Gal 5:6 For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision nor uncircumcision has any value. The only thing that counts is faith epressing itself through love...Hobbies: Woodworking, Travel, Movies
